Google has announced that their Street View vehicles will return to Romania starting in April. Over the next few months, these cars will travel through numerous towns nationwide, updating imagery for over 25,000 kilometers of roadways.

Google Street View vehicles will map out areas including major cities like Bucharest, Timisoara, Sibiu, or Ploeisti, along with smaller municipalities such as Brad, Onesti, Sulina, or Turda.

Street View became accessible in Romania back in 2010 with the initial set of images appearing on Google Maps. By 2012, comprehensive national coverage through this feature had been completed after capturing photographs along 40,000 kilometers of roadways spanning over 39 urban areas as well as numerous tourist spots throughout the nation.

Pictures of key urban areas were refreshed regularly, incorporating numerous tourist spots like the Turda Salt Mine, Bran Castle, the Alba Iulia Fortress, the Brukenthal National Museum, the Danube River, or the Danube Delta.

In 2023, alongside the Tฤƒศ™uleasa Social Association, approximately 900 kilometers of Via Transilvania were documented via photography. As a result, this path can now be experienced digitally using Street View imagery available on Google Maps.

The latest refresh of Street View imagery in Romania was conducted in 2024.

Street View is a feature provided by Google Maps, which can also be accessed through Google Earth via web browsers or mobile apps. This tool is accessible in more than 250 countries and regions worldwide, encompassing locations from the Arctic to Antarctica.

The revised roster of regions and specific locations in Romania that will be captured by Street View vehicles can be reviewed.
