As Britain experiences one of its hottest summers ever, numerous British people have been savoring barbecues, picnics, and meals outdoors.

However, specialists have cautioned about an unwelcome consequence of the mild climate โ€” a surge in fleas.

Parasites, which may lead to reddish, irritating bumps, are commonly linked to felines and canines.

Nevertheless, they may invade houses even without animals present, remaining alive for several weeks without a host.

Inquiries about “fleas in homes without pets” have increased by 3,550 percent within 24 hours, as reported by Bubblegum Search.

“A remarkable increase in queries regarding fleas within households without pets has been observed,” said Matt Cayless, owner of the pet marketing firm.

Fortunately, dealing with fleas is an issue that can be readily resolved.

Follow these steps to deal with insects if they make their way into your house during the summer season.

What methods do fleas use to enter our houses?

According to specialists, fleas have various methods of entering your house.

.

“Have you hosted guests who arrived with a pet? They might have unknowingly introduced fleas,” the company states on its website.

Have you relocated somewhere else? A flea infestation can remain inactive for approximately nine months, influenced by elements such as temperature and moisture.

So, if the former residents were animal caregivers, their animals might have caused an infestation.

Flea eggs may also enter your house via your footwear or clothing โ€“ though this scenario rarely causes an infestation.

What methods do fleas use to live without animals?

Should a pet come into your home, it may spread flea eggs throughout your residence.

When these eggs hatch, the resulting larvae have the ability to dig deeply into materials such as floorboards, furnishings, and even drapes.

There, they create silk nests and develop into adults.

Once adult fleas sense a new hostโ€”via heat, motion, and carbon dioxideโ€”they emerge.

“Smart, truly. However, regrettably, in this instance, they’re detecting you,” Frontline stated.

Fortunately, the fleas found in your house are probably from cats or dogs.

Therefore, although they may nibble on people, they will not see you as a suitable place for them to resideโ€”and ultimately, they will perish.

What steps can be taken to eliminate fleas?

Although waiting for fleas to disappear on their own is an option, using home sprays can enable you to address infestations more efficiently.

“Apply it to carpets, gaps and corners in floors, and cushioned furnishings to eliminate fleas and reduce the chances of them coming back,” Frontline stated.

Make sure to mist areas such as beneath beds and couches.

It’s also advisable to launder your bed linens at least at 60ยฐC, along with thorough vacuuming.

“Frontline noted that flea pupal cases are highly adhesive, so they may not always be picked up, however, the vibrations from the vacuum can prompt the fleas to emerge,” said Frontline.
