A fatal car crash occurred on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway at Cele Bus Stop, resulting in one death and injuries to six individuals.

The deadly accident happened at approximately 11:55 AM on Saturday and included seven cars with involvement from a total of 16 individuals (12 males and four females).

The vehicles involved in the accident were as follows:
1. A blue MACK truck with registration number KSF 593 YA.
2. A yellow Volkswagen bus registered under LSR 02 YJ.
3. Another yellow Suzuki bus bearing the plate AFK 739 XA.
4. An additional yellow Volkswagen bus marked JJJ 32 XV.
5. Yet another yellow Volkswagen bus with plates FST 734 XZ.
6. A red Mercedes-Benz car registered FFF 779 TK.
7. Lastly, a gold Toyota Highlander jeep identified by the license plate RBC 667 ML.

According to a statement by the Lagos Sector Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Elizabeth Jayeola, the accident was caused by brake failure of the MACK truck.

The accident left one male passenger dead and six others injured. Of the six injured, four were male and two were female.

Jayeola stated that the victims who sustained injuries were immediately attended to by the Lagos State Emergency Response Team and rushed to the hospital while the body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary.

“The FRSC, together with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Nigeria Police Force, were present at the location overseeing the traffic jam and making sure the accident site was cleaned up to reinstate the smooth movement of vehicles,” she stated additionally.

Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kehinde Hamzat, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and stressed the importance of regular vehicle maintenance among commercial and articulated vehicle operators.

The FRSC similarly urged drivers to stay alert and careful, emphasizing that road safety responsibilities lie not just with the authorities but with each individual road user.
