On Friday, the residents of Edo South Senatorial District along with members of the Human Rights Community expressed their lack of faith in Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents the region. They cited her alleged failures, corrupt practices, misuse of authority, and abandonment of public trust as reasons for this loss of confidence.

The members indicated that they have officially started the process to remove the Labour Party (LP) senator from office and are additionally calling for his prosecution due to the circumstances related to his purported disbarment by the New York State Supreme Court in 2010.

They added, “Considering the worldwide scope of these claims, INTERPOL’s involvement is crucial for conducting a comprehensive, unbiased, and international inquiry.”

Five out of the seven local government representatives in the Senatorial District revealed this information during a press conference held in Benin City, Edo State. They emphasized that their constituents are entitled to leadership that is trustworthy, responsible, and open.

Local government representatives consist of Kola Edokpayi (Oredo), Caesar Garrick (Ikpaba-Okha), Aghatise Raphael (Ovia South West), Ogbu David (Uhunwonde), Okorie Kingsley (Ovia North East), and Hanson Orako (Egor).

The organization claimed that Imasuen, who serves as the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, does not have any constituency projects within his senatorial district and has maintained a distance from the public.

Hence, they provided a 14-day notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian Senate, and anti-corruption bodies, urging them to act upon their petition.

Senator Neda Imasuen, nevertheless, rejected the accusations, asserting that those who are now turning against him were only recently welcomed to Kogi State.

He stated, “They are conducting a hatchet job because they are receiving payment from Kogi.”

“I fail to understand why somebody is getting paid to throw stones inside his own home,” Imasuen remarked.

At the heart of a contentious issue is Imasuen, who leads the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions. The dispute involves a sexual harassment claim made by suspended Kogi State Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
