President Emmerson Mnangagwa has elevated Major-General Emmanuel Matatu to Lieutenant-General and named him as the new Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army effective immediately.

This move follows Mnangagwa retiring Lieutenant General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe and later appointing him as the Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture.

Sanyatwe assumes leadership following Kirsty Coventry, who has recently been elected as the new International Olympic Committee president through an election.
