News of the premature death of the beloved radio host broke on Sunday, April 6, 2025, sparking sorrow throughout the Ghanaian entertainment sector.

Nana Poku Ashi, who serves as both an entertainment analyst and the manager for renowned multiple award-winning highlife artist Kwabena Kwabena, shared news of DJ Awana’s unexpected death via a social media update.

In a touching message posted online, the artist manager praised DJ Awana for his accomplishments and pivotal role in the Ghanaian music scene. Additionally, they expressed their commitment to advancing a venture they initiated together with the late disc jockey.

He wrote:

Find peace, dear friend. I vow to continue advancing our strategy despite this setback. The team at KBKB joins me in mourning the loss of DJ Awana. Keep moving forward until we reunite, DJ; your absence leaves a void.

Media figures Nana Yaa Konadu Yiadom, Ohemaa Woyeje, along with seasoned radio host DJ Ashmen, used their different social media channels to express condolences over DJ Awana’s death and to commend their departed peer within the entertainment industry.

Adom FM, DJ Awana’s employer, announced via social media that the disc jockey sadly passed away at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, following a brief illness.

DJ Awana’s professional journey in the media sector of Ghana

DJ Awana launched his notable media journey at Adom FM in Tema back in 2003, swiftly becoming a prominent figure within Ghana’s media landscape and vibrant live events sphere.

In 2007, the deceased DJ made waves when he left Adom FM to join Oman FM at Kencity Media, a station owned by Stella Agyapong Wilson, who is married to well-known Ghanaian entrepreneur and ex-Member of Parliament for the Assin Central district, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Later, DJ Awana rejoined the Multimedia Group and started working at Hitz FM. He gained widespread recognition throughout his career for his distinctive jingle, “3y3 Awana nie oo,” which became a familiar tune to his audience on the radio.

Nana Prempeh of Bigscout Media took to social media to announce the controversial blogger’s sad passing.

The reason for Adwenpahene’s death remained unclear, but he left behind a spouse and five children.
