If you’re unsure about bringing your family to watch
Disney’s Snow White
Let this serve as your soft nudge to proceed and secure those tickets.

Coming soon to cinemas across the country on March 21, this latest live-action remake of Disney’s inaugural full-length animated movie is both charming and suitable for young viewers with its uplifting messages. Additionally, the runtime clocks in at less than two hours.

About ‘Disney’s Snow White’

Disney’s Snow White
Directed by Marc Webb and produced by Oscar-nominee Marc Platt, according to Disney, this film is a “reinterpretation” of their 1937 classic.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
There are some computer-generated effects and new tracks, yet the plot stays fairly close to what The Brothers Grimm penned. In this version, Snow White, portrayed by Rachel Zegler, summons the bravery needed to reclaim her late father’s throne from the clutches of the Evil Queen, embodied by Gal Gadot, assisted by both the seven dwarfs and a group of rebellious outlaws.

Zegler really stands out in this musical thanks to numerous big-budget Broadway-style performances that highlight her versatility. Her co-stars feature Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, along with the seven dwarfs aged 254 years: Jeremy Swift voices Doc; Tituss Burgess plays Bashful; Andrew Barth Feldman takes on Dopey; Martin Klebba portrays Grumpy; Jason Kravits acts as Sneezy; George Salazar embodies Happy; and Andy Grotelueschen characterizes Sleepy. Meanwhile, Andrew Burnap brings the love interest, Jonathan, to life.

Fans of musicals ought to enjoy the ensemble’s vocal performances along with the soundtrack crafted by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The visual aspects, particularly the scenes set in the forest and the high-angle views of the realm, are visually appealing—and I was quite fond of the sequences depicting the varied inhabitants gathered in the town square.

The costume design stays close to the original appearance of the characters. Nevertheless, the jewels worn by the Evil Queen appear quite cheap. Her nail design compensates for this, though.

The Themes in ‘Snow White’ Are Optimistic

The script penned by Erin Cressida Wilson is brimming with motivational messages—emphasizing themes of internal allure, reigniting optimism, and leveraging personal strength to uplift others, which clearly strike a chord.

“My dad would extend them compassion.” – Snow White

Snow White embodies stillness, empathy, generosity, and love. Her inner radiance illuminates her essence. Despite losing her mother and the uncertainty surrounding her father’s fate, she upholds the values they taught her.

Although she is a princess, Snow White genuinely aims to serve others and holds them in high regard, placing equal importance on her own value. This serves as an excellent role model for children not to measure their self-worth based on physical attractiveness.

“Let the people watch her die.” -Evil Queen

The Evil Queen appears magnificent externally, but internally, her heart is corrupt. She leverages her outer allure to manipulate, exert control, and assert dominion over the realm.

The portrayals of envy, pride, and the urge to maintain control offer a valuable chance for meaningful discussions with children regarding these themes. An old saying goes, “Envy is as fierce as death itself.” Throughout the film, the Evil Queen shows willingness to go to extreme lengths, even murder, just to stay “the most beautiful one around.”

“It’s time to reclaim our kingdom.” -Snow White

The princess along with the bandits remain devoted to the king and his heritage. During their reign, the king and his first queen inspired optimism among the populace. However, upon the takeover of the Evil Queen, her grim demeanor and authoritarian rule lead to widespread oppression.

Throughout the film, one of the key themes revolves around maintaining hope for brighter days ahead. So long as you hold onto memories of past goodness, it’s always possible to strive for those moments again. For the princess character, this serves as a motivating factor, and it carries a powerful message intended to resonate with younger audiences.

Certain Scenes Might Be Disturbing for Younger Audiences

Disney’s Snow White
has a PG rating and should be aware that some scenes may be a little scary for kids under 6. For instance, there’s a harrowing scene at the beginning of the movie when the princess is running through the forest. There’s also a scene towards the end, where the Evil Queen uses magic to transform herself into an older woman that could be disturbing.

You might witness the Evil Queen employing sorcery to dominate the realm, along with using the enchanted mirror to gather intelligence for her nefarious plans. Nonetheless, numerous moments showcase light overcoming darkness, providing ample opportunities to discuss themes like beauty, compassion, and impact with children.

Violence

  • Some clashes occur between the bandits and the Evil Queen’s troops.
  • Gentlemen are confined within a dungeon.
  • The Huntsman brandishes a knife at the princess.
  • An enchanting figure offers a magical apple to the princess.
  • The trees in the forest loom threateningly, trying to ensnare the princess.

Language

  • Occasionally, you’ll come across some mild, slapstick comedy, but it doesn’t cross into being overly distasteful.
  • People are discussing the passing of the princess’s mom and the potential loss of her dad too. If this subject might upset you, get ready to handle conversations about it with children.
  • The Malevolent Queen employs words in an effort to manipulate and dominate both the princess and others within her realm.

Sexual innuendo

Several of the dwarves have a soft spot for the princess, and there’s some gentle fondness along with a mutual kiss between her and Jonathan.

Although there has been some
controversy over the casting
options for the film include Rachel Zegler as the charming Snow White, whose vocal performance is enchanting. Should your children enjoy the traditional fairy tale, make sure not to miss watching this movie together as a family.

The film has a certain charm that resonates well, and regardless of what some critics or people who thrive on controversy may claim, children ought to find this movie captivating. The scenes featuring the interactions between the princess and Jonathan could be particularly appealing for young teenagers, especially teenage girls. 😊

At times, the computer-generated imagery of the seven dwarfs and certain animals can be somewhat distracting; however, the moral messages help reinforce some of the less robust elements of the movie.
