“Delia D” will showcase the original compositions of Jonathan Manalo, who has been acknowledged as one of the globe’s top streaming songwriter-producers, amassing an impressive eight billion streams.

The musical stands out as it doesn’t follow the usual jukebox format,” explained Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, FHTC co-artistic director. “We refer to this blend as hybrid, thus we’ll showcase Jonathan’s famous tracks along with his newly created six songs which will make their debut.

In the guidance of Dexter Santos and with Vince Lim’s brilliant orchestrations, “Delia D” stays true to reality as it merges glamour, fragility, and strong resolve into an energetic universe where aspirations, self-image, persistence, and expertise intersect.

The lead role of Delia D is played by Phi Palmos, alongside Floyd Tena, Tex Ordoñez de Leon, Omar Udin, John “Sweet” Lapus, Shaira Optimar, Joanna Yap-Co, Joshua Cabiladas, Mimi Marquez, Rapah Manalo, Miah Canton, Alfritz Blanche, Natasha Cabrera, and Chaye Mogg, complemented by an impressive ensemble and swing performers.

Director Dexter gave a deeper look into the new, original musical. “Coming from ‘Ang Huling El Bimbo’ and ‘Buruguduystunstugudunstuy,’ the Newport production team kept on asking, ‘What’s next?’ Let’s do something simple.”

“But given the massive stage at Newport World Resorts, we constantly push our limits. We’re thrilled that Jonathan Manalo, marking his 24th year with this fusion musical, will be collaborating with us on this production. It’s quite an excitement for us,” he stated.

We introduce Delia, a drag artist who has chosen to participate in ‘Idols of the Galaxy,’ a reality music competition. Along her journey, she’ll have many encounters which will lead to forming various bonds of camaraderie among the participants,” he added. “The show promises an exhilarating experience as we explore fresh, Filipino musical elements. Beyond just the music, our series dives into narratives, storylines, and performance segments designed for both competitions and entertainment.

Delia will similarly introduce her family, where John Lapus portrays her mother, Mama Eme, the proprietor of the Drag and Tell Bar. Her clan goes by the name The Divaettes. This marks the beginning of her heartwarming adventure.”

As director Dexter emphasized, “It’s enjoyable watching an episode because it reflects how Filipinos are in unity.” He further stated, “When it comes to our passion for music, the realm of entertainment, performances, and valuing relationships with families and friends, this show isn’t just aimed at Generation Z; it’s meant for everyone.

Dexter maintained that “Delia D” stands apart from both “Ang Huling El Bimbo” and “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy.”

“Regarding the sets and costumes, we won’t disappoint the viewers,” Dexter stated. “It’s going to be thrilling—simple yet it offers an entirely distinct experience which makes it even more significant.”

The team that remains largely unseen by audiences yet diligently operates backstage to bring the production together comprises musical director-arranger and vocal arranger Vince Lim; dramaturg Rody Vera; choreographer Stephen Viñas; set designer Lawin Cruz; costume designer Mitoy Sta. Ana; music supervisor and Manila Philharmonic Orchestra head Rodel Colmenar; conductor Mickey Jacinto; and Jonathan Manalo.

Similarly, Menchu recognized the entire creative ensemble including playwright Dolly Dulu, video projection creator GA Fallarme, assistant video projection artist Joyce Garcia, lighting specialist John Batalla, audio maestro Justin Estacio, sound effect engineer RV Dimaculangan, along with hair and makeup stylists Mama Rey de la Cruz and Yohan de la Fuente.
