Stefon Diggs grew up not far from where the
Washington Commanders
They play their home matches at Northwest Stadium. He was also a standout player for the University of Maryland. Interestingly, Diggs dropped to the fifth round in the 2015 NFL Draft, where the Minnesota Vikings eagerly picked him up.

Minnesota quickly recognized they had found a gem in Stefon Diggs. Before his fourth year in the NFL in 2018, the Vikings extended Diggs’ contract, securing him as one of the leagueโ€™s top-paid wideouts. Just two seasons following this deal, Diggs was dealt to the Buffalo Bills, helping transform Josh Allen into one of football’s elite signal-callers.

Nonetheless, their connection started to weaken, leading the Bills to trade Diggs to the Houston Texans prior to the 2024 campaign. In his last season with Houston, he managed 47 receptions for 496 yards along with three scores until he suffered an ACL tear halfway through the year. Currently, as an unrestricted free agent following a major injury, itโ€™s unsurprising that Diggs remains without a new squad even two weeks into the free agency period.

Could a nearly 31-year-old Diggs serve as an ideal short-term addition for the Washington team? As a four-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro (most recently in 2022), Diggs might have dealt with injuries lately, yet his performance demonstrated significant productivity last year. Adding him to the lineup alongside Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel would create a formidable group of seasoned receivers for star QB Jayden Daniels to target.

Although this seems reasonable at first glance, itโ€™s still quite unlikely. The Commanders might benefit from having another wide receiver, but why wouldnโ€™t they consider selecting such a player during next monthโ€™s draft instead? Adding younger talent with more speed would certainly help their team. Even though Diggs isnโ€™t as quick as he used to be and has recently been dealing with injuries, his ability to run precise routes and gain yards after catching passes hasnโ€™t diminished.

Itโ€™s probable that The Commanders will seek additional receiving support; their search may not include Diggs due to his assertive demeanor. While Washington seems like an environment where such personalities can flourish, itโ€™s unlikely that General Manager Adam Peters and Head Coach Dan Quinn would prefer bringing in a seasoned wideout alongside Daniels, known for constantly demanding targets.

Diggs coming back to the Washington region to conclude his NFL journey appears to be quite an inspiring tale. However, it feels rather improbable.
