Starting with hawking mukombero along the dirt roads of Bungoma, Dennis Wanjala’s journey has been truly remarkable, culminating in significant online popularity.

Nowadays, he is recognized throughout Kenya and further afield as “Book Ten,” an innovative force who has established a distinct position for himself in the tough realm of online platforms.

However, his path to success did not begin with high-profile endorsements or trending videos. He began with strong resolve and an enthusiasm for expressing his artistic talents globally.

“I didn’t begin with promoting goods. I came up with concepts, worked onsite, produced material, and ensured it connected with the intended audience,” stated Book Ten in an exclusive conversation with

In the beginning, Book Ten tried out whatever he could to stay afloatโ€”music, screen printing, and even selling mukombero, a widely known medicinal root.

He was looking for what truly suited him. Yet, even with the ambiguity, one aspect stayed unchanged – his artistic passion.

“I truly wanted to express my creativity to the world and stand alongside major figures in the creative field. Only through content creation could I become somebody,” he stated.

How Chapter Ten became an online personality

Nevertheless, building an online following was not straightforward. Amidst a crowded marketplace where fads evolve rapidly, the content creator needed to differentiate themselves.

He emphasized genuine representation and created compelling material that showcased daily experiences in Kenya.

“I’ve developed my own approach, focusing on authenticity and realism rather than relying heavily on props. Others observe your growth, and each person can recognize my journey. Audiences enjoy encountering something freshโ€”it comes down to how you present yourself and deliver your message,” he added.

His approach has yielded success. With the growth of his internet visibility came an expansion of his brand.

My name and reputation continued to grow daily, with everyone aware of my abilities. I currently possess, and have always had, a genuine fan base. Companies began reaching out to inquire about potential collaborations.

Currently, Book Ten has become an emerging digital influencer gaining recognition and earning revenue via brand partnerships, promotions, and joint ventures.

Even though he doesn’t like to boast about his figures, he acknowledges that individuals tend to keep their profits private, “but my salary is quite decent.”

Nevertheless, he quickly emphasized that creating content is not constantly about sparkle and excitement. The online world can be uncertain, particularly during a weak economic period.

“It isnโ€™t a permanent position… when the economy struggles, everyone feels the impact. It’s crucial to develop another option that could help you through tough periods,” he suggests.

What additional functions does Volume Ten perform?

In Book Ten, starting a business offers a path forward. He now manages a muesli company that provides him with an average monthly revenue of KSh 50,000โ€”a financial support system that enhances his work as an influencer and ensures his economic stability.

He states that a career as an influencer, much like any other profession, presents its own set of difficulties.

“If you market a product and encounter criticism, or if you support a particular company and an issue arises, you can be blamed for having recommended them. Additionally, there may be delays in receiving payment, inconsistent billing timelines, or even complete non-payment following completion of your work. Certain companies or clients fail to follow through with their commitments,” he stated.

He emphasized that influencers go beyond wealth or recognitionโ€”it serves as a medium for motivation, connection, and showcasing the artistic energy of young people in Kenya.
