Being part of the lower-income group, I’ve endured rising prices, increased fuel costs, and financial uncertainty. However, power bills now pose an alarming challenge. A latest report from the Auditor General of Pakistan reveals that distribution firms have imposed unfair load charges exceeding lawful thresholds, resulting in an extra Rs. 22,175 million charged to customers. How many people have ended up paying for energy they didn’t actually consume?

Worse still is the lack of openness. Invoices come in without accurate meter measurements or checks, and whenever we ask for clarification, we’re made to feel as though we’re at fault. The audit report even states that records were overlooked by leadership. If the Auditor General struggles to obtain responses, how can regular people expect help through customer service channels?

This is far from an insignificant error; it constitutes treachery. We demand fairness, not justifications—and we require it immediately.
