The coalition aims to address the housing crisis by reducing the number of international students in higher education by 80,000.

A significant decrease in enrollments at universities and vocational education institutions is set to be revealed as part of Mr. Duttonโ€™s immigration strategy, according to reports from The Daily Telegraph.

This change would cause Australiaโ€™s intake of international students to decrease from a peak of 320,000 in 2023 to around 240,000 by imposing a percentile limit at public institutions.

The cap is anticipated to hover around 25 percent but will ultimately be decided by the government after reviewing the most current data and in collaboration with industry stakeholders.

Based on 2023 enrolments data, the Coalition expects the measure will overwhelmingly affect metropolitan โ€“ especially Group of Eight universities โ€“ where pressure on housing and infrastructure is most acute.
