A recent study revealed that Delhi, India, is considered the most affordable place for taxi rides globally, where an average trip of five miles plus a tip costs just ยฃ2.06 (US$2.80).

A research conducted by the UK-based insurance firm ChoiceQuote examined cab fares across 50 well-known travel locations around the globe.

Cairo, Egypt came in as the second most affordable city at ยฃ2.31, which includes a 10% gratuity, whereas Denpasar, Indonesia, where tipping is not common, was third at an average of ยฃ2.41.

Agra in India came next at ยฃ3.74, while Shanghai, China ranked fifth at ยฃ4.14.

Taxi rates in Vietnam were not included in the rankings. Within Vietnam, taxi prices differ based on the company, car type, and location, typically ranging from VND10,000 to 12,000 ($0.38โ€“0.46) per kilometer for the initial one or two kilometers, with charges between VND11,000 and 15,000 for additional kilometers.

The ChoiceQuote research also looked into expected tips for taxi drivers in different nations.

The United States came first on the list, with an average anticipated tip rate of 17.5 percent, closely followed by South Africa at 15 percent.

In India, Greece, and Mexico, leaving a 12.5% gratuity is standard practice, whereas taxi drivers in Egypt, Croatia, and the United Kingdom usually receive about 10%.

In Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, and France, a gratuity of approximately 7.5% is seen as appropriate.

Paris topped the list of most expensive cities for taxi rides, where the typical fare for a five-mile trip reached ยฃ29.12, plus a 7.5% gratuity.
