Police officers in Bulawayo are looking into two incidents of armed theft that took place in Emthunzini and Pumula on Sunday, as worries about an increase in criminal activity within the city continue.

Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, deputy spokesperson for Bulawayo Provincial Police, stated that a 54-year-old woman from Emthunzini was asleep in her home when she heard noises originating from the front door, which was being forced open.

Shortly after, the person filing the complaint observed three individuals carrying a gun and an axe entering the residence.

Ndlovu stated that the accused individuals held the gun against the victim and requested cash.

“They subsequently checked the bedroom and collected $6 from inside the wardrobe before leaving,” she stated.

In another comparable case, Ndlovu mentioned that a 34-year-old man from Pumula South returned home from town and parked his Honda Fit car.

“As he exited the car, he was confronted by three unidentified suspects who each had pistols,” she stated.

Ndlovu stated that they instructed the individual to place himself on the floor.

“The individuals charged requested money along with his Samsung mobile phone. The victim handed over $6,000,” she stated.

The thieves broke into the victim’s home, looted it without discovering additional cash.

The individuals charged subsequently entered the victim’s automobile and departed.

Ndlovu encouraged the neighborhood to implement security measures at their residences by installing anti-theft grilles on windows and mesh panels on doorways.

“We also encourage the public not to carry significant amounts of cash, particularly during nighttime hours, but instead to deposit the funds,” she stated.

We urge anyone who has details that could help catch the suspects and retrieve the car to step forward or contact the closest police station.
