An aspiring candidate for the All Progressives Congress, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, has decided to withdraw from the current primary elections being held at the Women Development Centre in Awka on Saturday.

Okonkwo pulled out following the withdrawals of Chukwuma Umeoji and Paul Chukwuma, who had previously stepped down from the competition.

After Okonkwo decided not to participate anymore, the four other APC candidatesโ€”Nicholas Ukachukwu, Onunkwo Johnbisco Obinna, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Maduโ€”are now vying for their partyโ€™s nomination on Saturday.

The resignation letter, titled ‘Withdrawing from the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial primary election,’ was dated April 5th.

It stated, “To our supporters and fellow Anambrarians,”

Following a thorough assessment and contemplation regarding the present condition of the All Progressives Congress primary elections in Anambra State, I have chosen to step back from my bid for the partyโ€™s gubernatorial nomination.

This choice to step back from the competition was tough yet essential due to certain changes that conflict with my core beliefs and values. Continuing would jeopardize the well-being of those who support me, which is just one of several factors.

Nevertheless, my enthusiasm for public service is unwavering, and I will keep dedicating myself to the socioeconomic and political progress of Anambra State as well as our nation, Nigeria.

I also keep assisting in whatever capacity I can to support President Bola Tinubuโ€™s developmental initiatives and contribute to the economic progress of our nation, all for the benefit of our fellow citizens.

I am thankful for the confidence and backing demonstrated by my colleagues in politics, supporters, and stakeholders within the APC and elsewhere. Your support has been invaluable, and I am appreciative of the chance to engage with numerous dedicated and enthusiastic individuals from Anambra.

โ€œAbove everything else, let Anambra thrive for the sake of its future generations.โ€
