The Alte Feste, a prominent national historic site, has officially begun its significant renovation project aimed at converting it into an exemplary center for arts, crafts, and heritage.

Namibiaโ€™s RMB, via the FirstRand Foundation, has provided N$650,000 for the initial stage of renovation, encompassing crucial structural enhancements and setups for both the museum and cultural center.

At the launch of the renovation project, Philip Chapman, CEO of RMB Namibia, stated, “Alte Feste stands as much more than an historical siteโ€”it embodies the strength, traditions, and deep-rooted history of our community. Constructed in 1890, this building serves not only as a monument but also as a testament to our countryโ€™s path filled with challenges and victories.”

Shareen Thude, the General Manager of the Namibia Craft Centre, highlighted the significance of this project for the community stating, “The renovation of Alte Feste signals the start of a fresh era for both Windhoek and Namibia. It goes beyond mere restorationโ€”it aims to establish a platform that supports local craftsmen, particularly women, and upholds our collective heritage. This effort embodies recovery and potential.”

The participation of RMB Namibia highlights their commitment to safeguarding the nation’s legacy while promoting avenues for local economic growth via cultural and creative industries.

Chapman additionally mentioned that this transformation will infuse fresh vitality into the structure along with opening up new possibilities for the residents of Windhoek.

“This area will transform into a lively center of culture, innovation, and empowerment, offering a stage for local craftsmen and highlighting the profound legacy of Namibia. It will serve as an emblem of our strength, bringing us together in the quest for a more luminous and equitable tomorrow,” he concluded.

Through this refurbishment, the Alte Feste will acknowledge Namibiaโ€™s intricate past and establish a venue for cultural festivities, creative exploration, and economic advancement and empowerment. It will stand as an enduring emblem of fortitude, cohesion, and progression for coming generations.
