Since 2023, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has improved the lives of more than 800 disabled people nationwide by providing them with crucial Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills.

The accomplishment was recognized during a graduation ceremony held in Kariba, attended by 35 recently empowered individuals celebrating their achievements.

Mr. Tichafa Mujuru, the deputy director of Postal and Courier Services at POTRAZ’s Universal Services Fund (USF), mentioned that this training acts as a symbol of opportunities for young individuals and women who have disabilities. It also highlights the governmentโ€™s dedication to promoting inclusiveness.

One of the graduates was Bethel Musaba, a fisherman and father of three from Chief Mola living with albinism, who expressed deep gratitude for the program.

“Over this five-day program, my comprehension of technology was completely altered. Today, with my smartphone, I am able to promote my fishing and agricultural goods, connecting with far more clients than I could have imagined,” he stated.

Siahundu, who moves about with the help of crutches, voiced comparable opinions.

“In our neighborhood, where technology appears unattainable, we rarely had the chance to engage with computers and smartphones at school. I am thankful for this opportunity provided by the government,” she stated.

Bethel and Brightness both declared their desire to disseminate their recently acquired wisdom within their respective communities, aiming to drive economic and social transformation.

POTRAZ has joined forces with 13 organizations committed to supporting people with disabilities, highlighting through this collective endeavor the significant value placed on inclusiveness.

Mr. Job Mazhinji, who serves as the chairperson of the National Council of DisabledPersons of Zimbabwe (NCDPZ) in Kariba, stated that this program truly exemplifies the governmentโ€™s dedication to building an inclusive society.

He stated, ‘This goes beyond being merely an accomplishment; itโ€™s proof of our ability to persevere despite obstacles. We feel profoundly thankful to POTRAZ for their consistent commitment to ensuring digital access.’

This kind-hearted program has provided participants with complimentary training, opening doors to fresh prospects.

In collaboration with the Internet Society Zimbabwe Chapter, POTRAZ is making sure that these susceptible individuals acquire the essential abilities needed to succeed in our progressively digitized environment.

Engineer Taurai Nyamufuka, who leads the chapter, emphasized the significance of fundamental ICT abilities.

In our rapidly evolving digital world, it’s essential for everyone to have the skills needed to manage their lives efficiently.

In reflecting on the program’s achievements, Engineer Mujuru emphasized its contribution to advancing the goals of the Second Republic’s Vision 2030 initiative.

We take pride in commemorating the advancements we have achieved in offering ICT skills to individuals with disabilities, enhancing their economic and social standing.

As part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, POTRAZ keeps supporting disadvantaged groups by fostering sustainable growth via multiple programs, which involve supplying crucial items, health services, and facilities.
