On Sunday, American actor John Lithgow was honored with the Best Actor award at the London Stage Olivier Awards for his portrayal of the darker aspects of childrenโ€™s author Roald Dahl in “Giant.”

In Mark Rosenblattโ€™s play, he portrays the author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” addressing Dahlโ€™s antisemitic attitudes.

“I believe I might pass out,” said the emotionally overwhelmed Lithgow, who is 79 years old.

When receiving his prize, he seemed to allude to the

present dispute regarding Donald Trump’s second term as President of the United States

, assuring Britons that the transatlantic “special relationship is still firmly intact.โ€

“It isnโ€™t always simple to have an American join you, and right now, it might be somewhat more complex than normal,” he stated to the crowd gathered at the Royal Albert Hall.

The play also received the award for Best New Play, with Elliot Levey, an English actor who starred alongside Lithgow, winning Best Supporting Actor.

In another instance, we have “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” which is a musical adaptation of an original tale penned by F. Scott Fitzgerald and later served as inspiration for other works.

In 2008, the film featuring Brad Pitt secured the title of Best New Musical at the ceremony. Meanwhile, esteemed actress Lesley Manville earned the Best Actress award for her portrayal of the astonished queen consort Jocasta in “Oedipus.”

Director Robert Ickeโ€™s contemporary adaptation of the classic Greek drama won the award for Best Revival of a Play.

Imelda Staunton secured her fifth Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for “Hello, Dolly!” Meanwhile, John Dagleish took home the prize for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as the character who ages backward in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
