The driver has three operational modes to select from, determining when and how the truck’s dual power sources are utilized.

It has been well over a year since
Ram
It unveiled its Ramcharger extended-range electric truck. We were aware from the start that this model would feature the brand’s 3.6-liter V-6 engine connected to a generator, which produces power for the vehicle’s battery and dual electric motors. On Monday, the carmaker provided further details, shedding light on how these gasoline and electrical parts collaborate to achieve an impressive range of 690 miles.

I’ve already informed you about the Ramcharger’s 92 kWh powerpack.
And why is only 70 kWh available for use? By maintaining some power as backup, the

Always ensures maximum power delivery to the driver, even when the battery’s charge level drops significantly and the generator becomes the only electrical source. This situation should ideally be avoided. However, Ram offers the driver three different operational modes that determine how the electricity—from either the battery or the generator—is utilized. These modes include: Electric+, E-Save, and Eco.

If you’re seeking an entirely electric vehicle experience,Electric+ is the mode for you. Just press the button, and the combustion engine won’t activate until the battery’s charge has been fully consumed. This typically allows for about 140 miles of typical driving conditions, as stated by Ram. Of course, aggressively pressing the accelerator or hauling up to 14,000 pounds can considerably decrease this distance. However, regardless of how firmly you step on the gas, the internal combustion engine remains inactive in Electric+ mode until the battery is completely discharged.

When the engine starts up, the generator supplies electricity to the motors. Additionally, the battery contributes energy reserves, maintaining the Ram’s maximum operational capability until the 27-gallon fuel tank empties out. Once refilled, you can resume driving; however, keep in mind that the generator cannot fully charge the battery. To restore it completely, you must connect an external charger.

In E-Save mode, the engine turns on whenever necessary. While this doesn’t boost your horsepower, it keeps your battery’s charge level steady as you operate the vehicle. Should you begin with a fully charged battery in E-Save mode, it will remain fully charged until the fuel tank empties. However, if you activate E-Save mode when your battery is less than half-charged, it gradually increases the charge up to around fifty percent.

What makes this mode appealing? Ram views it as an approach to maintain certain electric-driven features during particular stages of a trip, like driving into areas where only emission-free cars are permitted. Rather than depleting the entire battery, one can use the E-Save mode and preserve some charge for quieter operation at another point.

The last mode available is Eco. Ram did not provide extensive details about this setting, merely stating that it’s ideal for saving energy. When in Eco mode, the vehicle restricts horsepower and minimizes less critical features such as air conditioning to save power. It remains uncertain whether using Eco mode is necessary to reach Ram’s claimed maximum distance of 690 miles. However, should you be driving under mild weather conditions, Eco mode can help optimize both fuel and electric consumption effectively.

“I believe the Ramcharger will become a secret weapon within the industry,” stated Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis at the Ramcharger media event. “That’s precisely why we decided to unveil it to you as quickly as we could. This isn’t just a concept from a PowerPoint; this vehicle is genuine and approaching rapidly.”

Search for the 2026 Ram Ramcharger EREV to make its appearance sometime during the latter part of this year.
