Kathmandu
[ Nepal ], March 28 ( ANI ): The
Kathmandu
District Administration Office,
Kathmandu
, has
extended
The curfew set for multiple regions until early Saturday morning.

In an announcement, the District Administrator
Kathmandu
Rishiram Tiwari stated that the curfew would be enforced until 7 AM local time the following day.

Previously, the enforcement of the order took place from 4:25 PM to 10 PM today following incidents where pro-monarchy supporters damaged and torched private residences, stores, media establishments, political party headquarters, and public assets.

This directive restricts individuals from moving about, holding meetings, organizing rallies, staging protests, convening assemblies, or conducting demonstrations inside the specified limits.

This region stretches from Gaushala to the Tribhuvan International Airport, covering areas such as Gairigaun, Tinkune, and Koteshwor. Additionally, it encompasses routes like Koteshwor to Jadibuti Bridge, Koteshwor to Balkumari Bridge, Baneshwar Chowk to Shankhamul Bridge, along with Gaushala Chowk to both Old Baneshwar and New Baneshwar Chowks.

In the confrontations between security forces and supporters of the monarchy, two individuals lost their lives, and another 45 were wounded.

Up to seven individuals who were shot are currently undergoing medical care at different hospitals across the region.

Five people are receiving treatment at Tribhuvan Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, with another two at the National Trauma Center.

The intense confrontation began when a vehicle was deliberately driven into the crowd, breaching through a line of police barricades set up by Durga Prasai, a business magnate supporting the monarchy. As the situation escalated, acts of vandalism, rock throwing, and eventually gunfire from law enforcement ensued. Notably, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)โ€”a conservative monarchist faction and currently the fifth-largest political group in Parliamentโ€”had backed this demonstration.

Several homes in Tinkune were damaged by vandals during protests, with one residence being set ablaze. Protesters also made an attempt to breach the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) offices in Aloknagar. Additionally, they sought entry into the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) premises located in Persidauna.

In Peryshpรซndime, they ignited a government vehicle and engaged in vandalism and theft at Bhatbhateni. Furthermore, they set the Jadbusti Processing Center ablaze.

Significantly, the persistent disregard for the curfew directive issued by the local authorities led to the involvement of the Nepal Army to aid the police in implementing the restrictions. This intervention was commanded by the District Administration Office following the escalation of violence during the pro-royalist demonstration. (ANI)
