**”Winter Whispers: A Poetic Reflection by Kwesi Bissue”**

Underneath the snow and ice
Below the snow and cold weather
Hidden beneath the snow and freeze
Beyond the snow and icy conditions
Submerged under the snow and frost
In the area covered with snow and frost
Past the layers of snow and frost
Where snow and frost prevail
Behind the blanket of snow and frost
Through the snow and frozen surface

The earth is firm and icy
The ground remains solid and frigid
The dirt is stiff and chilly
The land is compacted and freezing
The terrain is rigid and frosty

Beyond the snow and the ice

The trees stand sleeping

Brown and bare

The trees keep trembling

Swaying in the wind

Too cold to share

The dead stems shiver

Withering and wavering

It is now winter

It is winter

We often question if summer will come again
We ponder if the season of warmth will return
We ask ourselves if summer will ever make an appearance once more
We contemplate whether the days of heat will return
We find ourselves wondering if summer will eventually return
We inquire if the warm weather will ever come back
We reflect on whether the time of year known as summer will return
We consider if the season characterized by long, sunny days will return someday
We think about whether the period of summertime will arrive again
We speculate if the summer months will one day return to us

Will summer ever return the sunshine?

When November is over

When December takes cover

When winter is over

We wonder

Will there be clear skies following the rainfall?

Will there be joy following hardship?

Beneath the snowflakes

Hidden stems

Beneath the frozen earth

Buried roots

Beneath the hardened crust

A million seeds are present inside

Buds

Buds on the stem

Buds on the roots

Secrets remain hidden until the following summer

Burying them so they can develop into flowers

Flowers that form the core of a dormant plant bloom

A little warmth

A taste of licks from gallons of water

Afterward, dormant flora come back to life.

And sleeping life awakens

A dormant existence stirs from a painful sleep
A quiet existence emerges from a tormented rest
An inactive state rouses itself from a suffering nap
A sleeping essence wakes up after enduring hardship
A passive life begins to stir following distress

Toads and ants and spiders

Hot-weather creatures are also resting

Sleeping under withered flowers

Snuggled beneath the leaves

Sleeping until the weather gets warm once more

To bring existence back to slumber
To stir vitality from rest
To revive consciousness from dormancy
To restore energy from repose
To initiate awakening from sleepiness

Seed

A bundle of life in a compact size

A supply of provisions in a small package

A small plant enclosed in a small bag

The seeds of existence are contained within

The seed of the mustard plant

…a seed of faith

The acorn of the oak

…a seed of strength

The seed of the willow tree
A willow seed
The willow’s seed
A single willow seed
The seed from a willow tree

…a spark for greater accomplishments

A seed hidden within the uterus

…a seed of life

A small existence contained within a compact form

Becoming a greater source of vitality for life

It is winter

When we wonder

Will summer come back again?

Will summer once again restore the sunlight?

After the cold…chilly weather

We wonder

When November is over

When December takes cover

When winter is over

After January’s dragging hangover

We wonder

Will there be sunlight following the rainfall?

Will there be joy following suffering?
