However, looking at where things stand now, this formerly niche label has risen to rub shoulders with leading players in the sector. The swift expansion of India’s motorcycle market has thrust Hero into the international spotlight, moving beyond mere fuel economy and affordability to compete on a broader scale.

The firm is currently producing and supplying one of Harley’s least displacement-heavy models, the X440, in India. This move signifies a significant advancement into the high-end motorcycle market.

However, an even more impressive achievement might be Hero’s participation in the Dakar Rally, renowned as the most challenging off-road race globally. Despite beginning as underdogs, Hero has shown significant improvement, culminating in a stage victory in 2022. This is quite a remarkable accomplishment.

According to the design renderings, the XPulse 421 appears to be geared towards an adventure touring motorcycle with a stronger focus on off-roading capabilities.

Currently, Hero is focusing on larger, more advanced motorcycles. The XPulse 421, an off-road ready concept bike, has been introduced into their range—a welcome addition indeed. Initially showcased at EICMA 2024, this motorcycle might just fill the void within Hero’s product line.

Centered on a completely new platform, the XPulse 421 boasts a 421cc water-cooled, single-cylinder motor encased within a trellis chassis. It’s anticipated to deliver power ranging from approximately 35 to 40 horses, focusing particularly on robust low-to-mid range torque—a configuration perfect for adventurous excursions. This motorcycle is slated to feature inverted forks upfront along with a mono-shock absorber at the backside (capable of adjusting pre-load). Additionally, it includes a 21-inch leading tire designed specifically for optimal performance off-road. Nonetheless, it appears as though solid inner-tube tires might be what comes standard, potentially posing a downside for certain cyclists.

It will undoubtedly make a great addition to Hero’s line of XPulse motorcycles designed for off-roading.

India’s motorcycle manufacturers are enhancing their capabilities, similar to what we’ve seen from Chinese companies. These firms have an edge with pricing, strong market interest, and they’re now aiming to produce motorcycles capable of competing internationally. Should the XPulse 421 meet expectations, Hero might well establish itself as a key competitor in the adventure bike category—not just within India but globally too.
