In Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] on March 29 (ANI), prior to their upcoming IPL game with the Gujarat Titans (GT), ex-Mumbai Indians (MI) leader and prominent player Rohit Sharma discussed the familial atmosphere within the squad. This camaraderie makes leaving the shared accommodation challenging once they have spent several months together over consecutive seasons.
Shubman Gill’s GT team and five-time winners MI, captained by Hardik Pandya, are set to clash at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. GT holds an advantageous 3-2 lead against MI, securing all their victories precisely at this location. Notably, MI hasn’t managed to secure a win against GT here yet.
In a video posted by the Mumbai Indians (MI) on their X account under the title ‘Charcha with Rohit Sharma,’ Rohit mentioned that when his team clinched victory in the IPL in 2020 amidst the pandemic, some individuals shed tears upon returning home following several unforgettable months of camaraderie.
“When your involvement with the IPL concludes for two months, returning home means knowing that you’ve formed another family. During this time, bonding with teammates and making lasting memories occurs naturally. Whenever we claimed various titles, leaving our temporary residence at the end of the season would often bring sadness. For instance, during the 2020 IPL held in Abu Dhabi, some individuals couldn’t help but cry as they departed. This emotional response stemmed from spending over three months within the quarantine bubble—staying at the same hotel and sharing common spaces with the squad. After forming so many cherished moments together, parting ways became incredibly difficult. The desire to stay longer was undeniable,” shared Rohit.
The Hitman mentioned that this year has seen considerable excitement, largely due to the fresh dynamic introduced by new members joining the series. He additionally commented on which athlete assists newcomers in feeling more at ease and enjoying their time with the squad.
“Players like Verma, S.K.Yadav, and Pandya. We all have represented this team previously, so it’s our duty to ensure that we maintain a fresh, pleasant, and healthy atmosphere,” stated Rohit.
“When Tilak Verma joined the team initially, he was quite reserved. He would often sit silently in a corner. However, now he is much more outgoing after being with the team for three years. Currently, he takes on the responsibility of bringing out the best in everyone,” he mentioned additionally.
Rohit stated that upon a new player joining the team, he takes it upon himself to “liberate everyone.”
You see, even if it’s just a tiny contribution towards the team effort, as long as it benefits everyone, why not? Players such as Trent Boult have gone through this before. They bring extensive experience and understand the MI ethos well. We also have players like Mitchell Santner, who serves as the national captain for New Zealand. He adds significant expertise and skill to our squad once more.
“Guy like Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Corbin Bosch. We also have an incredibly promising young talent in Bevon Jacobs. These players each contribute something distinct to the team dynamic. That’s precisely what builds a strong squad—when every member brings their own unique qualities and they function cohesively as one unit. Additionally, we’ve seen some outstanding younger talents from India emerge recently,” he noted.
Rohit said that his goal is to “bring back the glory” to MI, which has not won the trophy after its win in 2020.
We definitely comprehend that lifting trophies is significant; everyone aims for victory, and it’s quite… Well, it might seem trivial at times. However, we recognize how much effort goes into claiming that trophy. Numerous factors must align perfectly due to the demands of the IPL. Winning 17 matches—essentially representing half your T20 season—is daunting enough when played out over just two months. This presents a formidable test: secure victories across these 17 encounters to claim the prize. Correct? Yes, several criteria need meeting before reaching that ultimate objective. Only after ticking off every requirement can one finally reach their hands around the coveted trophy.
Rohit voiced his optimism for a successful season with MI.
We have talented players on the team—exciting ones at that. Many of them are younger players. Ideally, we aim to showcase our best performance and focus on doing everything correctly. To sum up, those are my thoughts. I won’t state that winning trophies is my objective; instead, I believe that focusing on the right actions will naturally lead us to success. As they say, adhering to the correct path yields desired outcomes,” he concluded. (ANI)
