Western Serene Atlantic Hotel Names Mercy Asubonteng as New General Manager

The Western Serene Atlantic Hotel, part of the First Sky Group, has revealed that Mercy Abena Twumwaa Asubonteng will serve as its upcoming General Manager starting from 1st September 2025.

Constructed in 1962 under the initiative of Ghana’s inaugural president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the hotel has consistently represented opulence and historical significance. Throughout the decades, the establishment has been overseen by different organizations and has received significant renovations to preserve its high-end reputation.

In June 2024, First Sky Group took full ownership of the hotel, which was previously called Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel.

Located beside the peaceful shoreline of Takoradi, Western Serene Atlantic Hotel presents an ideal mix of contemporary comfort and Ghanian heritage. Featuring 200 thoughtfully crafted rooms, suites, and bungalows, the hotel is committed to providing outstanding stays for visitors.

Having more than two decades of expertise in the hospitality and travel industry, Mrs. Asubonteng has occupied various high-level positions such as Food and Beverage Manager, Conference and Catering Director, and Marketing Manager at prestigious accommodation venues before becoming part of the team at Western Serene Atlantic Hotel.

Previously, Ms. Asubonteng held the position of Acting General Manager at the Western Serene Atlantic Hotel, during which she offered strategic guidance and enhanced important business partnerships to promote expansion and creativity.

Commenting on the appointment, Mrs. Rhoda Ashiabi, CEO of Serene Hotels & Resorts (which includes Volta Serene Hotel, Oti Serene Resorts, and Western Serene Atlantic Hotel under the First Sky Group), stated:

Mrs. Asubonteng possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management along with Hospitality Law from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Additionally, she has completed various training programs in Hospitality Management, including HACCP Food Safety Management offered by QMACS, ISO 19011:2011 Internal Auditing for the implementation of Codex HACCP Food Safety Management Systems provided by QSHE, and Customer Service Excellence conducted by AMSCO, among others.
