) in the region.”
Earlier, Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee
lashed out at the opposition parties following the tensions, reaffirming the government’s dedication to halting the “unrest.”
“We adhere to secular principles. Despite Navratri celebrations being underway, I convey my heartfelt greetings for the festivities too, yet I hope these occasions won’t lead to unrest. Such conflicts typically arise from political entities rather than ordinary citizens—that’s quite disgraceful. In the past, the ‘Lal’ party would often assert their commitment to secular values. Nowadays, both the ‘lal’ and ‘gehua’ factions have joined forces. Consequently, we must stand independently. We are prepared to lay down our lives for every religion… It falls upon the majority to safeguard minorities, just as it’s incumbent upon minorities to support majorities,” stated Chief Minister Banerjee.
The Calcutta High Court additionally instructed the Malda District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police to provide a report on the matter.
