Deputy First Lady Usha Vance will head a mission to Greenland this coming Thursday.
The journey seems to be an extension of President’s ongoing efforts.

to buy the Arctic territory from Denmark.
In a brief video about her approaching trip shared on social media, Mrs. Vance expressed her hope that the connection between the U.S. and Greenland will ‘only become more robust’ moving forward.
The officials accompanying her on this journey comprise National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright. Both of them are anticipated to inspect a military facility in Greenland as part of their trip.
Meanwhile, Vance plans to take her son to the Avannaata Qimussersu dog sledding event over the weekend in Greenland. They will head back to the United States on Saturday after their trip.
The second woman also revealed that the U.S. is backing an event with 37 mushers and 444 dogs set to compete.
The official visit occurs without her husband or Vice President J.D. Vance accompanying her, following her previous solo journey to Italy earlier this month where she headed the U.S. delegation at the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
The trip to Greenland also follows President’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr.’s flight to the capital city of Nuuk. His purpose was to garner backing for his father’s proposal to purchase the self-governing Danish territory.
Vance mentioned in her video about the journey that apart from participating in the race, she aims to ‘commemorate the extensive history of reciprocal respect and collaboration between our countries, and to convey optimism that our bond will continue to strengthen in the upcoming years.’
‘I am looking forward to meeting many of you soon and gaining insights into your wonderful landscape, cultural practices, and customs,’ she ended her speech.
The White House release about the visit also emphasizes their connection, noting: “Ms. Vance along with the group looks forward to experiencing this significant event and joining in celebrating Greenlandic culture and cohesion.”
Earlier this year, during Don Jr.’s visit, the eldest son of the president had a meeting with supporters of Trump in Greenland.
Greenland is abundant in natural resources and holds significant strategic importance for military and national security interests in the Arctic region.
With an area of 836,330 square miles and a population of just 55,775 as of March 9, 2025, Greenland stands out as the world’s most sparsely populated nation.
Denmark has stated that it has no intention of selling its highly strategic and naturally resource-abundant territory to the U.S.
And Trump has consistently stated that
He wouldn’t resort to using force; rather, it would be up to the people and government of Greenland to make the decision.
if they wished to join the United States
“As I stated during my address to Congress, the United States firmly backs the people of Greenland’s right to shape their own destiny,” Trump posted on social media earlier this month.
We remain committed to ENSURING YOUR SAFETY, just as we have done since World War II,” he affirmed. “We are prepared to SPEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to generate new employment opportunities and ENRICH YOU.
However, Trump reaffirmed his proposal for the island to become part of the United States.
‘Should you wish, we invite you to join as a member of the greatest nation in the world, the United States of America!’
Trump has also expressed interest in taking control of the Panama Canal and making Canada the 51st U.S. state.
