On April 1, Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) commenced round-the-clock operations for 18 hours each day starting today.
In order to upgrade the TIA, officials shut down operations for 10 hours each day between November 8 and March 31 during a five-month span to conduct infrastructure work aimed at increasing capacity. As of today, the TIA will be operational from 6:00 am until midnight, as stated by General Manager Jagannath Niraula.
He mentioned that the construction of the connector taxiway linking the taxiway to the runway has been finished, whereas work on the parallel taxiway continues. Part of the Air Traffic Capacity Enhancement Project managed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal aims at enlarging the airport with several components: constructing a parallel taxiway toward the southwest, developing an international apron towards the north, and establishing a hangar apron to the east.
The estimated cost for the project stands at roughly Rs 15 billion. According to Project Head Dipendra Shrestha, ninety percent of the tasks have been accomplished up until now. Despite most of the structural development, which needs to occur during nighttime hours, being almost concluded, the entire initiative is anticipated to conclude within about another year and six months.
