The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has confirmed the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1446 AH.
Abubakar conveyed this message during a special address to the Muslim community on Saturday evening at his residence in Sokoto.
He stated that the new moon had been observed in several regions throughout the nation based on reports submitted to the moon-sighting committee by local traditional leaders and Islamic organizations nationwide.
The sightings of the new moon were confirmed and validated by the Sultanate Council Moon Committee.
“As a result, Sunday, March 30, 2025, will mark the beginning of Shawwal 1446 AH and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr,” announced Sultan Sa’ad.
The Sultan encouraged Muslims to implement the teachings acquired during the fasting month.
Sultan Abubakar urged Nigerians to maintain harmonious coexistence among themselves for the nation’s socioeconomic progress.
He similarly encouraged Muslims to keep praying for the nation and its leadership at every level.
