The mid-sized electric SUV features two large displays indoors. Additionally, it includes a side ladder reminiscent of those found on Land Rovers.
- The largest EV from Smart features two massive screens and boasts an exceptional charging speed.
- Referred to as Smart #5, this vehicle is a mid-sized crossover.
- It has the capability to charge up to 400 kW and provides vehicle-to-load functionality.
This is the new Smart #5. It doesn’t signify being the fifth model from this Chinese manufacturer, adding some confusion. However, it is indeed the biggest one they offer, at least.
Smart
has made significant progress since the early days of the compact ForTwo city car. Currently, the organization operates as a joint venture between
Mercedes-Benz
and
Geely
, and it produces only electric vehicles (EVs).
Enter the #5, a mid-sized crossover recently launched in Europe featuring an AMD processor, large displays on the dashboard, and a remarkable charging speed, along with several additional features. The entry-level version is known as the Smart #5 Pro and comes equipped with a rear-mounted electric engine fueled by a 76-kilowatt-hour (with 74.4 kWh of usable capacity) lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

The company didn’t say, but the base LFP pack is likely rated at 400V. It can accept up to 150 kilowatts of power when connected to a DC fast charger, meaning it can go from 10% to 80% state of charge in less than 30 minutes. The entry-level version of the EV has a WLTP-rated combined driving range of 289 miles (465 kilometers) and can sprint from zero to 62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) in 6.9 seconds, courtesy of a 335-horsepower (225 kW) electric motor.
The interest factor rises significantly when we progress through the Smart #5 series. This elevation begins with the Pro+ model, which comes equipped with a 100 kWh (94 kWh usable) 800V lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) battery. Coupled with this advanced power source and its single rear motor delivering 358 horsepower (267 kW), the Smart #5 boasts an impressive WLTP range of 366 miles (590 kilometers) per full charge.
Opting for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup increases the horsepower to 579 hp (432 kW), though the range decreases slightly to 335 miles (540 kilometers). Additionally, this configuration allows for faster acceleration, reaching 62 mph from rest in only 4.9 seconds.
What stands out the most regarding the bigger 100 kWh battery is its capacity to handle up to 400 kW from a DC fast charging station. This figure is nearly twice what vehicles such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9, built on the E-GMP platform, can manage. Additionally, this exceeds the 250 kW limit of the Tesla Model Y based on theoretical specifications. According to Smart, their model number 5 equipped with the large battery can charge from 10% to 80% state-of-charge in less than 18 minutes, making it quicker compared to
Hyundai
’s 20-minute claim for the
Ioniq 5
despite having a smaller battery.
There’s also vehicle-to-load functionality which can export power from the main battery to a 230V outlet via an adapter.
The #5 seats five and the rear seats can fold flat. However, the biggest party piece is up front where the electric crossover gets no fewer than three screens—a 10.25-inch display for the gauge cluster and two 13-inch OLED, TV-like screens. There’s also a 25.6-inch Augmented Reality heads-up display. If using a smartphone while driving is dangerous, what is this?
When it comes to its AI-driven voice control, Smart asserts that it can provide a seamless and stress-free user experience; however, we will need to test this claim personally. Regarding the software and hardware aspects, the #5 model uses an AMD V2000 processor with Smart OS 2.0 to power its infotainment system. This setup includes enhanced electric vehicle navigation as well as a multimedia hub capable of integrating various video streaming platforms.
smart #5 Premium (2025)
A premium 20-speaker SennheiserSignature Sound system delivering 1,190 watts is included, featuring an elegant rising speaker on the dash. Additionally, a comprehensive array of both active and passive safety features is provided, such as V-shaped curtain airbags, integrated seat belts in the seats, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go functionality, and Highway Assist.
The premium trim level is known as the Summit Edition and includes features such as an electric trailer hitch, a rooftop platform, and a side ladder. However, Smart categorizes these additions as “off-road enhancements,” which we find questionable.
The Smart #5 will not be available in the United States. However, in Europe, it begins at around $49,620 (€45,900) for the Pro versions and can go as high as $61,500 (€56,900) for the fully loaded Summit Edition.
