Singapore Changi Ranks in Top 10 Airports for Baggage Loss Risk: Study

Singapore’s Changi Airport came in third on a list of 10 airports with the highest incidence of lost luggage, as per research conducted by Arka, a company based in California that offers specialized shipping containers.

The study examined two key factors: the number of passengers and internet inquiries related to “lost and found services.”

To enable equitable comparisons among airports, the search data was normalized to show searches per million travelers, which aided in identifying airports with significantly higher than average attention towards lost baggage.

Furthermore, regional luggage handling failure rates (calculated per 1,000 travelers) were incorporated to provide an expanded view.

The Miami International Airport in the United States received the title of the most problematic airport regarding luggage management, coming after Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

Changi has received recognition as the top airport globally 13 times according to Skytrax, an aviation consulting firm based in London, and continues to receive high praise from passengers due to its clean environment, contemporary facilities, and smooth customs processes.

A year ago, it was rated as the second-best location globally for handling luggage, after Japan’s Osaka Kansai Airport, based on a customer poll conducted by Skytrax.

Changi Airport handled approximately 67 million travelers annually.
