Kete-Krachi (O/R), April 1, GNA – The Oti Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Hudu Haruna, urged Muslims to uphold their purity and righteousness beyond the sacred month of Ramadan.
Muslims in the area celebrated Eid Al-Fitr alongside co-religionists worldwide following a successful month of fasting and prayers.
During an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Alhaji Hudu Haruna voiced his worry that certain Muslims follow Islamic teachings solely during Ramadan.
He noted that some Muslims adhere strictly to Islamic teachings solely during the fasting month.
He stressed that Islam is a faith of peace and encouraged followers to adhere to its values continuously.
“We should adhere strictly to Islamic teachings at all times, both during fasting and otherwise. We ought to steer clear of troubles and actions that contradict our values, including crimes, drinking alcohol, engaging in promiscuity, spreading rumors, and other forbidden deeds,” he cautioned.
The head cleric additionally emphasized the duty of Muslims to contribute Sadakatul Fitr, which is a charitable payment made at the close of Ramadan.
“Maintaining Sadakatul Fitr during Ramadan and Eid holds significant importance. It cleanses the spirit, fosters unity and equality, and offers crucial assistance to those who are less fortunate, enabling them to partake in the festivities with honor. He implored everyone to uphold this duty,” he emphasized.
He urged Muslims to utilize the time during Eid as an opportunity to show appreciation to Allah, ask for pardon, and enhance their feelings of empathy and community duty.
At the same time, the Regional Chief Imam advocated for a tranquil and orderly Eid observance, encouraging the Muslim community to refrain from engaging in activities that would violate Islamic principles.
