PM Oli’s Visit Boosts Nepal-Thailand Ties: An International Edition Exclusive

Kathmandu, April 2 — During his five-day official trip to Thailand, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stated on Wednesday that this visit has significantly boosted the bilateral relationship between Nepal and Thailand to an unprecedented level.

At a shared press conference in Bangkok after his discussion with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Oli voiced optimism that this visit would boost collaboration in areas such as culture, tourism, education, energy, and more.

He mentioned that talks took place regarding broadening the 65-year-old diplomatic relationship and enhancing connections between citizens. Oli likewise conveyed his belief that Thailand will focus more on investing in Nepal’s tourism industry, encompassing hotels and air travel sectors, in the near future.

I encourage Thai businesses to explore investment opportunities in Nepal,” stated Oli. “Our countries enjoy substantial trade and tourist interactions, and moving forward, we will join forces on global matters such as climate change.

Oli also mentioned that he had extended an invitation to Thai Prime Minister Shinawatra to tour Nepal and expressed his belief that the visit would occur shortly.

Nepal, Thailand sign agreements and MoUs

During their meeting, Nepal and Thailand inked several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

Representing Nepal, Minister for Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba signed the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Meanwhile, Thai Minister of Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol put her signature to the document concerning cultural collaboration, and Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong endorsed the agreement focused on tourism cooperation.

Furthermore, an MoU was signed between the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Trade Board of Thailand. The accord was signed by FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal and Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade Chairman Sanan Angubolkul, with both countries’ prime ministers present during the signing ceremony.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is designed to bolster trade relationships, encourage economic collaboration, and create a systematic structure for increasing trade and investments between Nepal and Thailand.

Distinct memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were also signed between the Confederation of Nepalese Industries with the Federation of Thai Industries, along with an agreement between the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Council of Thailand.

Kathmandu University and Siam University have entered into an accord to strengthen their academic cooperation.

Similarly, the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) and Mahidol University in Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
