The PCG vessel BRP Gabriela Silang has initiated a sequence of port calls in Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam aimed at enhancing regional maritime collaboration and bolstering strategic alliances with important Southeast Asian partners.
The diplomatic and operational tour aligns with Thailand taking over the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum chairmanship in 2025 via the Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordination Center. During the stay in Malaysia, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) seeks to strengthen relationships with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency—a key ally in protecting shared sea areas. Visiting Vietnam carries special importance after signing an important Memorandum of Understanding for maritime collaboration between the PCG and the Vietnamese Coast Guard (VCG). Additionally, the VCG’s trip to the Philippines last August represented a significant step forward in their bilateral relationship.
This multi-country port call includes various events like top-tier bilateral discussions, combined naval maneuvers focusing on tasks such as search-and-rescue missions, along with communications training, alongside cultural exchanges and interactions among citizens. According to PCG Chief Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, these port calls underscore the Philippines’ steadfast dedication to maintaining peace and fostering partnership within the region.
