Over 1,000 Laptops Missing From PM’s Scheme – PAC Demands Recovery in 30 Days

In an unexpected revelation, the subcommittee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has stated that over 1,000 laptops provided through the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme Phase-II have been lost.

Auditors told the committee that 1,011 laptops had been reported missing or could not be located. Although 784 have now been found, 227 are still untraced, resulting in an estimated monetary loss of about Rs. 12 million. Nevertheless, no measures have been implemented against the individuals involved.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) stated that previous inconsistencies concerned 179 laptops, although this figure has since decreased to 143, with Karachi and Government Sadiq College Women’s University, Bahawalpur, remaining under investigation.

The PAC has instructed officials to recover the leftover laptops within 30 days, cautioning that penalties will be imposed on responsible parties for any failures.
