The Alaremolen of Osi-Okero in Ile-Ife and a traditional leader in Osun State, Oba Adeboye Ademiluyi, asserts that assigning constitutional duties to traditional rulers is essential for fostering community-level growth across Nigeria.
During his remarks at the fringes of his crowning event last Wednesday, the monarch stated that besides fostering growth in remote areas, traditional leaders serve as paternal figures within their territories. Consequently, these leaders have the ability to bring about tranquility and encourage unity amongst the populace under their care.
He stated, “Traditional institutions have crucial functions in conveying governmental policies and programs to the populace, and these institutions should be fortified to resist the impact of certain elected representatives.”
Traditional leaders ought to be included at every level of governance as they contribute to lawmaking and significantly support the implementation of various governmental policies and programs.
I am among those advocating for the inclusion of traditional rulers in both the constitution and the House of Chiefs specifically, as I think this is beneficial.
A related proposal suggests extending the NYSC program to two years. In light of Oladunjoye’s passing, Salako Aselgon expresses deep sorrow over this significant loss to political activism, calling his death utterly surprising.
“Additionally, as you’re aware that everything revolves around politics, any elections held in Nigeria must involve traditional rulers, who serve as intermediaries between the government and the people,” Ademiluyi stated.
Nevertheless, he campaigned fervently for their representation in governance to accelerate the nation’s progress and development.
The ruler, grateful to Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for bestowing upon him the title of king in the historic village of Osi-Okero within Ife, vowed not to let down those under his care.
Nevertheless, Ademiluyi urged all stakeholders to back the initiative that would enable traditional rulers to assume significant constitutional positions in governance.
