Nine Injured as Sumo Spectacle Plunges Off Cliff in Makwanpur

On April 2, nine people were injured when a sumo fell off a 100-meter-high cliff in Nepal’s Makwanpur district. This incident occurred on Wednesday.

The Sumo (Na 1 Ja 5485) en route from Gaur, Rautahat to Kathmandu was involved in an accident at Indrasarowar Rural Municipality-2, Makwanpur.

The authorities stated that the accident took place at approximately 3:55 PM on Wednesday. When the brakes of the sumo malfunctioned along the Bhimphedi-Kulekhani-Sisneri-Kathmandu road segment, the vehicle veered out of control and plunged roughly 100 meters down.

Following the incident, a law enforcement unit headed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Khagendra Lal Gubhaju was dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, they promptly initiated a rescue mission and transported the wounded individuals to Kathmandu for medical care.

In the incident involving the sumo, there were initially 10 occupants, counting the driver. Among them, three suffered severe injuries, another individual was in moderate condition, and five had only slight injuries. According to law enforcement, the operator of the sumo is cooperating with authorities, and the vehicle is still located where the collision took place.
