The Musical Biography of an Enigma: ‘A Complete Unknown,’ which received eight Oscar nods, including Best Picture, and raked in $127 million globally at the box office, will be available for streaming starting March 27th on Hulu.
Set in the early 1960s, the movie follows Timothy Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan navigating through New York City and stirring up tension within the music scene when he contests the boundaries between folk and electric genres. In this narrative, Edward Norton embodies Pete Seeger, who serves as a guiding light for Dylan, whereas Monica Barbaro stars as Joan Baez, the artist whose heart Dylan wins over.

positive review for
Owen Gleiberman characterized the movie as an “enchantingly peculiar drama,” asserting that Chalamet seems to embody Bob Dylan himself when performing “Song to Woody” for the ill Woody Guthrie portrayed by Scoot McNairy. The film delves into the genesis of some of Dylan’s most recognizable compositions, such as “Masters of War,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are A-Changing,” and “Like a Rolling Stone.”
The R-rated movie ranks as Searchlight’s sixth highest-grossing film domestically with earnings of $74 million and stands as their 13th most successful globally, surpassing both “Birdman” and “Little Miss Sunshine.” Reports suggest that the production costs for this film were somewhere between $60 million to $70 million.
James Mangold earned his initial Academy Award nod for Best Director with “A Complete Unknown.” His earlier works, including “Logan,” “Ford v Ferrari,” and “Walk the Line,” have also been recognized with Oscar nominations previously. Meanwhile, Chalamet, Norton, and Barbaro garnered nods for their performances in these films.
