MTN Secures $2M Deal to Sponsor All 4 National Teams

The telecommunications leader MTN Ghana has strengthened its dedication to football in Ghana through a $2 million sponsorship deal that supports all four national teams—the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets—for the upcoming two years.

A significant deal was revealed during an vibrant event hosted at the MTN House in Accra, which builds upon MTN’s current collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Black Stars team. This updated alliance will be effective from September 1, 2025, until August 31, 2027.

The gathering attracted notable individuals such as GFA President Kurt Simeon-Okraku, executive council members, Chief Director from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Wilhemina Asamoah (acting on behalf of the minister), Black Stars icons, and fans of the sport.

MTN’s Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett, remembering his ties to Ghanaian soccer from when the Black Stars reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, commended the enthusiasm and solidarity that the game generates in Ghana.

“Here, football is more than just a game; it is an integral part of the nation’s rhythm, with the pride, enthusiasm, and solidarity it generates proving its incredible ability to bring people together and motivate them,” said Mr. Blewett.

He referred to MTN as “the leading corporate backer of Ghanaian football,” emphasizing the company’s continuous support of the MTN FA Cup since 2011 and intentions to establish a national MTN Elite U-19 squad aimed at identifying upcoming talents for the U-20 team.

Mr. Blewett additionally issued an audacious challenge to the Black Stars: “Ghana has yet to claim the World Cup title, but this should serve as motivation rather than a source of sorrow. At MTN, we hope to witness Ghana winning the World Cup—that is our aspiration, purpose, and dedication.”

The president of GFA, Kurt Simeon-Okraku, praised MTN’s funding, referring to it as a vital support for the game.
MTN Ghana is committed to our current situation and our shared tomorrow. Through this agreement, the most significant challenge confronting Ghanian football has been addressed,
He stated, pledging to guarantee that the resources are utilized efficiently to attain outcomes.

He pointed out that the MTN FA Cup’s scope, which includes second and third division teams across the country, has offered an essential stage for emerging, less recognized athletes to face elite competition and demonstrate their abilities.

The head director of the FA, Wilhemina Asamoah, praised MTN’s broader efforts towards national growth, encouraging other companies to follow their example.

“Sport has the ability to influence people’s lives, stimulate economic development, and enhance cultural and social unity,” she stated.
