Kathmandu, April 9 – Senior lawyer Bijay Prasad Mishra continues to extend his advantage in the presidential race for the Nepal Bar Association, having garnered 4,272 votes after three days of vote tallying. His nearest competitor, senior attorney Raman Kumar Shrestha, has accumulated 1,843 votes thus far.
Mishra is running under the wider democratic-progressive coalition, which remains ahead in various crucial roles such as general secretary. Mishra’s group features senior counsel Kedar Prasad Koirala for the role of general secretary, whereas Shrestha’s faction has put forward advocate Yagyamani Neupane as their nominee for the same position.
The election for the association’s 27th central committee took place on Saturday, with approximately 80 percent of participation from the 9,957 eligible voters.
Surveys were carried out at 36 locations throughout Kathmandu and various regions of the nation.
The Mishra group extended their lead when voting resumed at 8:00 am on Wednesday.
The Mishra team has backing from legal professionals affiliated with governing parties such as the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, whereas the Shrestha committee receives support from attorneys associated with opposition parties like the CPN (Maoist Centre), the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and the CPN (Unified Socialist).
