On April 7, Pakistan saw ‘The Minecraft Movie’ make cinematic history as it raked in $157 million during its debut weekend, thanks to Hollywood stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa.
Although industry professionals anticipated that the movie would earn approximately $80 million during its first weekend, it has achieved the largest opening of the year according to reports from Variety.
In its debut weekend, ‘A Minecraft Movie’ grossed $157 million, making it the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever.
With an estimated production cost of $150 million, this major Hollywood film garnered $144 million domestically, resulting in a worldwide opening tally of $301 million at the international box office.
The movie exceeded ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ to achieve the biggest opening for a video game adaptation.
Directed by Jared Hess, ‘A Minecraft Movie’ revolves around a band of misfits who find themselves transported into a cube-shaped universe, where they receive guidance from a character named Steve.
In addition to Jack Black and Jason Momoa, the movie also features renowned actors Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.
The movie is adapted from the well-known game with the same title.
Markus Persson created Minecraft, which was launched in 2009. Following its broader release in 2011, Jens Bergenson assumed responsibility for further development of the game.
The title boasts the distinction of being the best-selling video game ever, with sales surpassing 300 million units and approximately 140 million active monthly players reported up until last year.
