According to the new Philippine Passport Law, married women have the option to revert to using their birth names, as stated by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday.
According to Section 5 (f) of the legislation, applicants must provide the following documents: a birth certificate, a marriage certificate, a notarized affidavit explaining the situation, and an active government-issued identification card that displays the applicant’s maiden name.
When marriages conclude due to annulments, separations, or the passing of a spouse, applicants should provide supporting papers such as a death certificate alongside their marriage and birth records.
The Department of Foreign Affairs stated that the new Philippine Passport Act permits women to characterize themselves independent of their marital status, promote self-reliance, and affirm their individuality.
