Lego Sega Mega Drive Set Leaks: Hidden Sonic Scene Revealed

After the Lego NES and Game Boy, yet another vintage console seems set to receive the brick-built makeover.

Lego
has collaborated with various game developers in recent years to take advantage of retro sentiment, including block-built versions of
Nintendo consoles
, the
Atari 2600
, and a working
Pac-Man coin-op
.

There has also been a variety of
Sonic The Hedgehog sets
targeted towards children, yet thus far only one focused on adults and no efforts to replicate any Sega equipment… until recently.

A recent disclosure indicates that Lego is broadening its scope
Sega
output based on the 16-bit Mega Drive, or more specifically, the console’s controller.

According to an announcement posted on Instagram by user itavix_bricks, a Lego version of the Mega Drive controller will be released on September 8, 2025.

The controller reportedly includes a base and removable labels, allowing you to distinguish it as a Mega Drive controller or a Sega Genesis model—the system’s title in North America.

As per the leak, you’ll have the ability to open the front of the controller ‘to expose a Sonic Green Hill Zone design built internally’. This appears to clarify why there’s a Sonic The Hedgehog logo on the box of the leaked controller.

The dimensions of the set are reported as 15×10 cm and includes a total of 260 pieces, making it quite compact. What’s unusual is that it isn’t a standard retail item but rather a free gift with purchase (GWP), which can only be obtained by purchasing more than €130 (£112) worth of non-related Lego items.

Lego hasn’t previously launched any video game hardware products like this, so although it might be intended to test demand for a brick-made Mega Drive, this approach appears rather unusual—particularly since the set is likely to attract scalpers.

The collection has not been formally revealed yet, so maybe there was some confusion in the leaked information, but it won’t take long before we get confirmation.

In the future, Sega is scheduled to release
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
On September 25, 2025. A public beta test will occur prior, running from August 29 through September, available on all platforms excluding PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

During Gamescom,
Pac-Man was revealed
as additional downloadable content after launch for the new racing game, with Sonic scheduled to appear in Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac as part of the exchange.
