India and Nepal Seal Deal to Boost Agricultural Cooperation

Kathmandu, April 9 – An agreement has been reached between India and Nepal through signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This pact aims at enhancing collaboration in agricultural practices with an emphasis on sustainable methods and better crop production techniques.

The accord was established between Nepal’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ram Nath Adhikari, and India’s Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The Indian Minister Chouhan indicated in a social media update that their collaboration intends to concentrate on boosting crop yields, refining post-harvest procedures, fortifying agriculture marketing frameworks, and advocating for climate-adaptive and environmentally friendly farming methods.

It is anticipated that this accord will fortify relations between both nations via joint efforts in technology sharing and experience swapping within the agricultural industry.

Later, during his visit, Indian Minister Chouhan met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday. He came to Kathmandu for the Third Bimstec Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture.

In the course of the meeting, Minister Chouhan highlighted the significance of cooperation between the two nations in updating agricultural practices, securing food supplies, and fostering economic growth.

“A statement from the prime minister’s press office noted his emphasis on progressing through mutual accords and collaborative task forces, setting aside smaller problems to address matters more efficiently with common interests in mind,” reads the communiqué released by the prime minister’s press secretariat.

He further observed that the recently held meeting between Nepal’s Prime Minister Oli and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangkok offered a hopeful outlook for both nations.

Prime Minister Oli remembered his encounter with Prime Minister Modi in Thailand. According to statements from the secretariat, he said, “This discussion strengthened our bilateral confidence, enabling us to advance jointly towards greater economic prosperity.” This was mentioned during their meeting.

The gathering included key figures such as Bishnu Prasad Rimal, who serves as the Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister, along with Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava and several others.
