Highway Horror: FRSC Officer and 17 Others Perish in Tragic Ogun Road Crush!

By Abiodun Lawal

On Saturday, a devastating accident in Ogun State claimed 18 lives, including an FRSC official, when multiple vehicles collided in a horrific crash on the perilous Ikorodu–Sagamu Road.

The accident happened near Gbaga around 4:00 p.m., involving seven cars. It resulted in mangled metal, burnt debris, and devastated relatives.

Confirming the terrifying incident, Mrs. Florence Okpe, the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, stated that the vehicles involved were a Toyota Hiace bus (registration number AGL 752 YC), two Daf trucks (with one lacking registration), a Honda vehicle (HT680), a pickup truck (STF10204), along with two motorcycles (registrations AGG 448 Q and PKA 214 WS).

Okpe states that the violence began when the operator of the Toyota bus tried an irresponsible passing maneuver, crashing into one of the Daf trucks.

As rescue efforts continued, confusion intensified: an undocumented Daf truck experienced brake failure, slamming uncontrollably into the area and instantly killing an FRSC officer.

The out-of-control truck crashed into a parked Honda pickup and two motorcycles, intensifying the destruction and increasing the number of casualties.

In the accident, 22 individuals were affected, with 18 losing their lives and four sustaining severe injuries.

The wounded were swiftly transported to Dasochris Hospital in Gbaga, whereas the deceased had their remains taken to the morgue at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu.

FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, conveyed profound grief regarding the deadly crash, attributing the carnage to blatant disregard for driving rules and regulations by drivers.

“This is a disaster that could have been prevented. Drivers need to cease gambling with people’s lives,” Fasakin stated, encouraging rigorous adherence to traffic laws and speed limits.
