Even though he admits he can barely swim, his favorite place remains the renowned Coogée Beach.

The 29-year-old hooker from the Western Force carried out the heroic deed earlier this month when his Perth-based Super Rugby team was away.

The video depicted him pulling the man onto the sand safely after the individual encountered trouble in the waves.

“I was simply being myself; I just so happened to be in the right spot at the perfect moment,” said a humble Paenga-Amosa.

I’m not much of a swimmer, so thank goodness he wasn’t any deeper, mate, otherwise I doubt I could have reached him.

I would’ve simply greeted him with a mana wave [Maori greeting] and said, ‘Good luck, buddy.’ Thank goodness it was only waist-high.’

The legendary Wallaby player Tim Horan questioned the whereabouts of the lifeguards at the beach during the terrifying incident.

They arrived, they glanced at me, I stared back at them, and I said, ‘Bro, I’m taking over your role here. Pay me thirty bucks per hour and we’ll get things sorted.’

“To be frank with you, I was coincidentally present at that time,” he stated.

I didn’t quite definitely rush in.

He simply walked by me, and I told him, ‘Hey bro, I’ve got your back.’

Earlier in the interview, host Michael Atkinson asked if the star should now be called ‘Brandon Paenga-Hasselhoff’ in a reference to Baywatch star David Hasselhoff.

He responded with, ‘Brandon Paenga-Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson,’ known for his role in the 2017 film Baywatch.

Paenga-Amosa had his initial starting appearance for the Force during the game against the Waratahs.

In 2018, he made his debut in the Super Rugby league with the Queensland Reds, playing a total of 55 games for them until he moved to the French side Montpellier Hérault in 2021, adding another 56 caps to his record.

The product from Auckland made his debut for the Wallabies in 2018, appearing in 16 games wearing the green and gold jersey.

Early this year, he shared that having children has improved the way he performs – for the better.

“I sense that my performance has elevated since I became a father,” he stated.

‘I have two daughters who were both born in France – they’re three and one years old respectively – and I must say their mother is incredible. She’s the driving force behind our family, giving me the freedom to showcase my skills on the field.’

Of course, I tend to be quite an overthinker, and those who are parents would understand this sentiment. However, once you become a parent, you come to realize that minor issues aren’t significant so long as your children are in good health and your spouse remains resilient.

‘Becoming a father has assisted me in breaking through the mental fog that often creeps in. I find myself less concerned with every aspect of my performance and am able to concentrate on minor details, moving on to the next task more swiftly.’
