The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has brought its environmental dedication into action, as employees carried out a significant cleanup along Meridian-Harbor Road under the company’s ECO MOTION program.
The activity, conducted in partnership with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and Zesta Environmental Solutions, involved company staff actively participating in ecological rehabilitation within the Tema region.
Eric Pwadura, Head of Corporate Communications, spearheaded the effort that highlights how large companies are becoming more actively involved in addressing ecological issues. The ECO MOTION campaign reflects GNPC’s wider approach to environmental responsibility and fostering sustainable local communities.
Eunice Ofori, who leads events within GNPC’s Corporate Affairs Department, outlined the motivation behind the project. “This is crucial work for the benefit of coming generations. An environmentally contaminated area negatively affects farming output; pollution hinders plants from growing properly and resulting in lower harvests,” stated Eunice Ofori.
Eunice Ofori linked the clean-up effort to larger ecological issues, stating, “We must ensure a pristine environment for future generations since there’s an old adage that says when the final tree is gone, the last person will also perish. We aim to witness lush greenery and strive to keep our surroundings tidy while planting more trees.”
A representative from GNPC further encouraged local residents to support the company’s initiatives. “I urge the citizens of Tema and nearby areas to step forward and strive to maintain cleanliness in their environment,” said Eunice Ofori.
The neighborhood cleanup represents a move away from conventional corporate social responsibility initiatives toward hands-on ecological efforts. Rather than just supporting environmental programs financially, GNPC employees got involved directly to address pollution.
The partnership among GNPC, Tema Metropolitan Assembly, and Zesta Environmental Solutions demonstrates how collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors can successfully tackle community-based environmental challenges. The project operates under the campaign tagline #GreenTodayGreenerTomorrow.
The Meridian-Harbor Road initiative reflects GNPC’s commitment to integrating environmental initiatives into its routine business operations, including continuous cleanup projects and afforestation campaigns in various areas throughout the nation.
