The 24-year-old Nigerian player, who transferred to the Smurfs from French club Amiens SC during the winter transfer window of the 2022/2023 season, has managed to secure an important role within Thorsten Fink’s team as they chase titles after initially facing some challenges.

“Who could have imagined? When I joined the team, my aim was to score 100 goals. The journey hasn’t been without challenges. This season presented an option to leave, yet I’m extremely pleased that I decided to stay and continue playing under this coach. He has significantly improved my game,” stated the ex-FC Köln striker in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws.

Arokodare almost signed with Anderlecht from Amiens 27 months ago, but now he is set to mark his hundredth appearance when they face each other this Sunday.

This formidable forward has been in outstanding form during this season, scoring 20 goals and contributing five assists in 36 matches overall.

In total, he has scored an impressive 37 goals and provided 12 assists in 99 matches for Genk. This season, his significant progress aligns with Genk’s championship aspirations.

Arokodare’s significant achievement arrives during a crucial juncture in the Belgian league, where Genk leads the Championship Round standings with 37 points, ahead of Club Brugge by four points after securing a commanding 4-0 win against Gent in their opening playoff match this past weekend.

The Nigerian forward’s self-assurance has received an additional boost from his recent selection to the national team, the Super Eagles, which adds extra incentive as he gears up for what he characterizes as a battle against Anderlecht.

“We concentrate on our game rather than dwelling on the past. This matchup holds great importance for both teams. We’re entering the playoff stage, and these are precisely the kinds of matches you aspire to be part of,” Arokodare stated.

We are an indomitable squad, just like you witnessed last week against Gent. Our aim is to defeat Anderlecht with the consistent mindset we’ve maintained throughout the entire season. Undoubtedly, there will be no complacency. We neither undervalue nor exaggerate the capabilities of any opponent. Instead, we build upon our strengths and approach this match as though it were battle.

The match at Lotto Park on Sunday poses a tough challenge for both teams. Currently ranked fourth in the Championship Round standings with 26 points, Anderlecht aims to recover from a disheartening 2-0 loss against Club Brugge in their opening playoff game, during which they did not manage to get even one shot on target.
