Foreign National Detained in Harare for Car Theft Rampage

The Zimbabwean National Police have detained an individual from another country who is alleged to have taken laptops and fuel vouchers from cars left unattended in Harare.

A police official, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, stated that

45-year-old Cassian Pascal Mangombe

Was arrested after a series of burglaries occurred between August 18th and 21st at retail outlets throughout the city.

Reports of the incidents occurred at Bond Shopping Centre located in Mt Pleasant, Greenfields Shopping Centre situated on Samora Mache1 Avenue, and Village Walk Shopping Centre found in Borrowdale.

Detectives from CID Theft From Car obtained information connecting the suspect to the incidents on 22 August 2025,” said Comm. Nyathi. “They followed the suspect and arrested him in Msasa, Harare.

He stated: “The arrest resulted in the retrieval of fuel vouchers that were taken on 19th August 2025 from a stationary Toyota Hilux at Village Walk Shopping Centre, located in Borrowdale, Harare. The police investigation revealed that the accused had unlawfully crossed into the country and had previously transported the stolen laptops back to his home nation via bus.”

The ZRP has now involved INTERPOL to help track down and retrieve the stolen goods.
