DRI Unveils Owner Behind $3.2 Million Seizure From Truck in Tokha

Kathmandu, Nepal – On April 2nd, the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) revealed the identity of the individual who owned the approximately Rs 250 million worth of US dollars and Euros discovered in a vehicle near Tokha last week.

As stated by the Director General of the DRI Chandri Prasad Ghimire, the funds belong to Narayan Paudel, a resident of Tokha Municipality-10, who hails originally from Bhote Koshi Rural Municipality-4 in Sindhupalchok.

On the evening of March 17, law enforcement officers arrested Kusan Lama, a 43-year-old individual from Sindhupalchowk. He was discovered concealing funds in a vehicle registered under the number NA 7 Kha 1652. Lama, who resides in Bhote Koshi Rural Municipality-1, had hidden the cash by constructing a secret compartment behind the driver’s seat.

Thanks to intelligence and thorough investigative work, the DRI has identified the alleged person. According to DG Ghimire, the probe found out that Paudel was the one who supplied the funds.

Ghimire states that a court order has already initiated an arrest warrant for Paudel, and a group from the DRI has conducted a raid at Paudel’s local dwelling in Tokha.

Sources from the DRI reported that the police discovered irregularities in the financial activities within the driver Lama’s bank account. They also managed to track down the final communication link between Lama and Paudel using an analysis of the call detail records from Lama’s cellphone.

The inquiry progressed through an examination of the suspect’s mobile phone call detail records, surveillance videos, and electronic devices. According to sources, law enforcement contributed to the probe by carrying out raids at several sites such as his home, commercial spaces, and storage facilities. These operations led to the retrieval of numerous articles.

The vehicle has likewise been linked to multiple sites such as garages, car parks, and storage facilities, prompting law enforcement to conduct search operations at these places.
