Daddy Owen Regrets Not Having Kids in His 20s: “Yangu Ni Aibu”

Renowned gospel artist Daddy Owen has shared his greatest sorrow from throughout his life.

Talking during an interview with media figure Alex Mwakideu regarding choosing not to have children in his twenties.

The producer of Mbona mentioned that he had funds during those times but used them for luxuries and his companions.

He also felt sorry for ignoring his father’s counsel, which he claimed had proven correct.

Owen mentioned that his deceased father had consistently urged him to get settled at an earlier stage, yet he paid no heed. Rather, he decided to concentrate on his musical profession, his companions, and the rapid lifestyle associated with fame.

One of my greatest disappointments is wishing I had started having children in my early twenties… I was financially stable then. I owned vehicles and lived in a spacious seven-bedroom home, with every room filled. I recall that for outings, such as traveling to Mombasa, we needed two cars since one wasn’t sufficient… My dad would often advise me to get settled into married life. Back then, I believed I was still too young,” he mentioned.

When questioned about how old he was when he had his first child, he avoided giving an answer, stating it was embarrassing.

“When I became a parent for the first time, I was too old—too old indeed. It’s almost embarrassing to admit,” Owen remarked.

Mwakideu shared that he became a father for the first time at age 34, prompting Owen to respond:

“During those years, 3, 35… after time had passed,” Owen added.

The gospel artist also shared details regarding the pain from his previous marriage. He expresses regret over bringing it into the spotlight, which led to scrutiny and intensified criticism once it finally came to an end.

He praised artists like Wyre for successfully shielding their families from media spotlight.

At present, Owen chooses to live a secluded lifestyle.

He also remembered spending a large amount of money to take a woman to Dubai as a gesture, only to discover later that she had visited there previously.

The highest amount of money I’ve ever spent and felt sorry for was when I took a woman to Dubai. It turned out to be an unnecessary expense. I planned a trip for her there, but what makes me feel remorseful is that she falsely claimed she’d never visited Dubai before. Upon arriving, I discovered she had actually been there previously and had tricked me,” he mentioned.
